There has been a considerable shift in the demand for the frizzy beer in comparison with other hard liquor in Bhopal and other cities across Madhya Pradesh. The excise department shows the figures with 10% of hike in beer consumption in Bhopal whereas the ratio dropped by 2% for hard liquor consumption. The scenario is similar for Vidisha, Betul, Sehore, Hoshangabad, Rajgarh, Harda and Raisen towns.
Apart from the excise duty figures, there was an increase in the government revenue with 525 crores until November 2017, which until last year was 9%. As compared to the data last year, the beer consumption increased by 6% by July 2017 while decreasing the rate of hard drinks by 8%.
This year in the month of November, 101 lakh liters of bulk beer was recorded to have been sold which was 91.86 lakh in the similar period last year. The authorized officials are in the process of understanding the change of trend. The State Government is investing money in awareness and anti-liquor drives. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Chief Minister mentions “Phased Prohibition” in Madhya Pradesh while rolling out “Nasha-Mukti” campaign.
Dr Jai Prakash Paliwal explains that it’s a common myth that beer has minimum health effects than IMFL or country liquor, which is disbelief. Beer is as harmful as other alcohols as it’s a diluted form but has alcohol substances that make it equally harmful. He further mentions that 90 ml of whisky is equal to a beer. People also have a common myth that beer cures stone but this is just a propaganda spread by mafia liquor for the sale aspect. An industrial person mentions that beer might have less alcohol percentage but is served in larger quantities.
