According to sources, Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan has received a privilege notice against Congress President Rahul Gandhi from Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu, on the basis that “prima facie is an act of privilege”.
The notice was sent to Ms. Mahajan as Rahul Gandhi is a member of the Lok Sabha and Mr. Naidu wanted her to take her action on it. It is also notable that the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha, which is headed by one of the senior most members of the BJP, Mr. L K Advani, already has a complaint pending against Rahul Gandhi forwarded by the speaker.
The man, who was recently made the President of the Congress, questioned the decision and the authority of the Rajya Sabha and questioned its decision in a tweet he sent out. This made BJP leader Bhupinder Yadav send a privilege notice against Mr. Gandhi as he felt that the latter had broken privilege when he insulted the current Finance Minister and Leader of the House, Mr. Arun Jaitley by calling him “Jailtlie” in his tweet when calling him out for the alleged lies of PM Modi.
Mr. Yadav said that the action was disrespectful to the House as it was an attempt to defame the government by intentionally painting a false picture on the proceedings of the Upper House. He also accused Mr. Gandhi of spoiling the state of politics in the country through this statement and was very displeased with him.
Mr. Venkaiah Naidu had assured Bhupinder Yadav along with other members of the Lok Sabha that he was taking a close look at the matter and would have an opinion on it soon after the BJP leader went ahead and inquired about the status of proceedings on the privilege notice that he had sent.
